В краю невыпавших дождей

ветерану вьетнамской войны Кейну Гарберу
Еще вчера была война.
А завтра будет - тишина.
Но даже в этой тишине
ты будешь думать о войне.
Один стреляет, чтоб убить.
Другой стреляет, чтобы жить.
И вряд ли сможешь ты понять,
зачем был послан умирать.
А где-то там, за тишиной,
там, где питаются войной,
средь жизни, быта, сигарет,
зарыт ответ в статьях газет.
И кто-то будет их читать,
возможно, пробуя понять
все “да” и “нет”, но ляжет спать...
А кто-то будет воевать.
И между всеми тишина
твои сокроет ордена.
И новая наступит ночь.
Сны повторяются - точь в точь.
